Dominik Piehlmaier, Dee Warmath, Cliff Robb - Gender has been identified as a driving force behind excessive investor confidence in one’s portfolio and future returns (e.g. Barber and Odean (2001)). However, little attention has been given to the constituents of choice. We analyzed a cross-sectional dataset of 2,000 investors and found that shared decision-making within a household or with a financial advisor significantly reduces excessive confidence.
