Brenda J. Cude, MacKenzie P. Myers - Policy is influenced by the failing financial literacy scores in many populations. Yet how much faith should we put in these scores? Are respondents just guessing? Do they know what they don’t know? This research used data from a multiple-choice financial knowledge test administered to 351 college students. For each knowledge question, students rated their confidence in their answers on a 5-point Likert score (5=most confident). Analyses indicated students were more confident about their assessment of their own financial knowledge after a semester-long financial education course and more likely to know when they did not know the correct answer to a knowledge question.
