Jimmy Chan, Xian Fang, Zhi Wang, Xianhua Zai, Qinghua Zhang - Education at the primary-school level in China is largely public, and the assignment is residential based in urban area. Parents expend considerable resources to secure admissions into elite schools. Using the boundary discontinuity design, we implement hedonic regression method exploring how much Chinese parents are willing to pay for better schools. We find that a one-standard-deviation increase of our school quality measure leads to an increase of house price by around 4.4 percent, or 130,000 RMB yuan on total price of an average house in our sample.
